Progress on the percentage of women in senior management roles held in the mid-market is slow. Without determination to make the changes needed to progress, there's a risk of slipping back. 2024 marks the 20th year of Grant Thornton’s Women in Business report, which monitors the proportion of women in senior management roles in mid-market companies around the world.

This report explores the factors that help—as well as those that hinder—women in the workplace, and makes the following recommendations on how businesses can pave pathways to parity:

  • Have diverse senior leaders collaborate on equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB) efforts within your organization.
  • Set a clear plan with specific goals to provide equitable access to opportunities for growth and development, create an environment where everyone belongs, and regularly monitor progress.
  • Consider flexible work models and create a way of working that empowers all employees.

Explore these pathways and opportunities to narrow the gender gap in leadership roles in Canada and across the globe.
