Christopher Trenaman

I help not-for-profit organizations comply with government rules and regulations so they can focus on supporting the needs of our communities.

Working with membership-based associations, charitable organizations, pensions, multi-employer benefit plans, and universities, I bring an in-depth understanding of not-for-profit operations, funding, governance, and the challenges they may face. As a baseline, I make sure my client’s financial, audit, accounting, and compliance matters are sorted out so they can focus on their purpose. Aware of the unique structure of non-for-profits, I work on ensuring operation continuity and guide my client’s finance team on strategy and decision-making. Collaborating with my advisory colleagues, we also address risk, cyber, governance, and other operational issues.

It’s no question that my clients make a difference in the lives of their members and stakeholders as well as positively impact our communities. To help my clients deliver on their mission, I make sure I’m simply a phone call away to provide reliable and timely advice. The rewarding feeling of being a part of something good continues to drive me as it has for more than 20 years of my professional career.

Passionate about keeping the professional standards bar high, I act as a Professional Standards Principal for Nova Scotia and work collaboratively with colleagues across Canada to ensure compliance with training standards and top-notch quality of our services. As part of my commitment to the profession, I’m actively involved in learning and development. I enjoy facilitating training courses, both internally to the Firm and externally through professional associations. I also sit on the Licensing Committee for CPA Nova Scotia.

In my community, I’m a past board member of the YMCA and currently serve as a Treasurer and Audit Committee Chair for the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.

Outside of work, my young family also keeps me active—you can often find me windsurfing, kayaking, and playing badminton with them whenever I have the opportunity.
