Randy Urman

I began my accounting career in the property management field, where I had the opportunity to progress to more senior roles and responsibilities. Though I enjoyed the work I was inspired to pivot to public accounting, where I could use my skills to help other organizations thrive.

In 2007, I joined Sloan Partners LLP. Over the course of my tenure with the firm, I progressed from Staff Accountant to Partner. In 2021, I joined Grant Thornton LLP, along with my colleagues from Sloan Partners.

Leveraging more than 14 years of experience, I focus on providing accounting services, business advisory, tax planning and compliance support to owner-managed businesses, and personal and estate tax planning to individuals. Working in industries ranging from professional services, consulting, wholesale and retail, to construction, real estate, manufacturing and beyond, my primary aim is to develop customized plans that meet my clients’ unique needs and circumstances.

No matter what I’m engaged in, I take great pride in building solid relationships. For me, this means pursuing continuous learning opportunities within the firm to further refine my tax, leadership and client service skills. Similarly, it means working closely with clients to learn as much about them and their businesses as possible so that I can provide trusted advice.

A native of Montreal, I moved to Toronto at a young age, but still return to Montreal frequently—where I love to stop in at any of the Lafleur Restaurants for a Montreal classic: steamies (Montreal-style hot dogs) and poutine. With an opinion on every restaurant and advice on what to order and what to avoid, I’m considered a foodie—and a great lunch companion. In fact, if I wasn’t an accountant, I’d probably be a food critic.

Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two very active sons at hockey rinks in the winter, baseball diamonds in the summer, or practicing martial arts together. I also enjoy traveling, especially to warm destinations. In 2007, I ranked 136th on the World Poker Tour so it’s probably no surprise that Las Vegas is a favourite for me.
